dude. be nice
As an addition to Gallatin County's anti-bullying agenda, the dude. be nice project gave the effort a new, fun spin! As part of "being nice" the GCHS FCCLA set forth on a mission to honor those in the school who don't always receive the love they deserve, and to be nice all around.

For one week a year, the FCCLA members and entire school work to be nicer. We give handmade paper flowers to elementary aged kids at lunch and accomplish other deeds just to be nice! The morale of the school is up, and it is time for the big finale: a school wide assembly honoring a secret person or group of people who are often forgotten, but are still very important people.
To help announce the honorees, the FCCLA decided to team up with the Unified Science class for two years in a row to produce a video to be shown at a schoolwide assembly honoring the secret people each year. With the entire high school sporting the dude. be nice shirts, and elementary students waving loving signs, the honorees are announced, being just as surprised as everyone else. For 2017, the school cooks were honored for dude. be nice week. Then, for 2018, the FCCLA decided to honor our retiring superintendent, Mrs. Schmitt! The clubs, organizations, and staff of the school all give gifts to the honorees to show their appreciation to the wonderful people. Being nice is something we can all do. Gallatin County school and its FCCLA chapter members are reminded of this each time they see a dude. be nice shirt, or one of the honoree's smiling faces. If we all took this approach to bullying, American high schools would be a much better place to learn and have fun. |
